On January 14, 2026, the PNG Chiefs officially appointed Lorna McPherson as the franchise’s inaugural Chief Executive Officer. This move is a critical step in the club's preparation for its entry into the NRL competition, scheduled for 2028.

Strategic Leadership: McPherson was chosen for her extensive experience in driving commercial growth and her deep-rooted connections within Papua New Guinea.
Rugby League Background: She has been involved in PNG rugby league for over 16 years, previously serving as a director for the PNG Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) and the PNG Chiefs board.
Proven Track Record: She played a instrumental role in developing the Digicel ExxonMobil Cup (PNG's premier domestic competition) and establishing elite women’s rugby league through the Santos Cup.
Corporate Experience: Beyond sports, she held senior executive roles at Digicel Pacific and holds several board positions, including chairing the Port Moresby Nature Park.
Significance of the Move:
